Vintage Mudroom – Mudrooms are usually found in snowy, damp northern climates. Most people use a mudroom to accommodate a variety of necessary odds and ends such as coats, boots and a spare change of clothes. Plus anything else you need when you go outside. It’s main purpose is a spot to shed heavy outdoor clothing during the winter months. Like most homes, yours probably does not have a mudroom. However, it could probably use one.
A mudroom can also be a cross between a walk in closet and a utility room. In fact if your utility room is large enough and leads to the outside why not use it as a mudroom also. You don’t need much room for just a couple or a family with few kids. Family size will determine the size and kind of storage needed. You can create a well designed mud room even in a very small space. Of course you will want your mudroom to have a vintage look.

The above photo is how a small utility room can be also made into a vintage mudroom by building a rustic entryway bench made from reclaimed wood from an old barn. This bench has storage for shoes, coats and extra space on top for hats. It would be an easy weekend project for the entire family.
